Authorized representatives are either lawyers who are members in good standing of a Canadian provincial or territorial law society, or immigration consultants who are members in good standing Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants.

Authorized representatives carry Errors and Omissions insurance, maintain client accounts for client monies, and abide by Rules of Professional Conduct as provided by their respective societies. Authorized representatives are subject to non-judicial Complaints and Discipline processes which are designed to protect the consumers of their services.
